Road trip from Vegas to San Fran

Hi would love some advice on road trip from Vegas to San Fran . Stopping at Death Valley for 1 night or near there is ok, then on to Yosemite nation park for 2 nights . We need ideas on accomadation we are a family with two teenage boys aged 13 and 16 so need to break up trip by staying somewhere nice along the way ( for all our sanity!!!!) we need help with maps on best route and also if any roads are closed as heard that can be the case ? Traveling 19 th September . Also thinking of hire on RV but not sure if we would all cope in a confined space for that long !!! Any tips would be most welcome ...... Thank you all cheers amanda & Chris

Firstly get hold of a printed road atlas or visit one of the free online map systems such as Google Maps.

Between Las Vegas and Yosemite, the towns of Lone Pine and Bishop on US395 in Owens Valley are good places for overnight stops (one or the other that is, not both).

Barring any totally unexpected event, in September the Tioga Pass will be open, so no problem.

The park itself has various accommodation options but they book up early. See the National Park Service web site for details http://www.nps.gov

There are several towns on the western side of the park such as Mariposa and Oakhurst which have motels (see the map). Probably the ultimate fallback is Merced on Ca99 in the Central Valley but that's 70 miles from the park.
