How many day do you have....As peach said above th most direct way would be to go from moab to Cortez to Famington to Albuquerque then I-40 to Memphis.
Albuquerque to Memphis is 2 days driving. Moab to albuquerque is one day. a stopping point on the ABQ to Memphis would be Oklahoma City.
Added stops for this trip on this route....
After moab in the evening you drive to Cortez for the night.
next day visit MesaVerde for AM/early PM then in the evening drive to Albuquerque or Santa Fe
spend 1-2 days in ABQ/Santa Fe
2 days driving to Mamphis with an evening in Oklahoma City.
You could drive US 160 through Southern Colorado and stop by San Dunes National Park then travel down to Santa Fe.
Another route option is to see Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Petrified Forest, and I-40 stretch west of ABQ (El Maipais NM, El Morro NM, Acoma Pueblo, Zuni Pueblo)
From Moab, I would drop down to I-40. Going through the Rocky Mountains on I-70 is fantastic, but you could see Mesa Verde, Durango, and Santa Fe by taking I-40. From there, you could see Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, the very well done Oklahoma Memorial in OKC, Little Rock, and then head to Memphis. Don't forget Beale Street and the Lorraine Hotel. In Asheville try the Wedge Brewery and if you have time, a river trip with Blue Heron Whitewater.
Thanks for your suggestions. We have previously taken a trip including ABQ, Sante Fe, Durango, Mesa Verde, Cripple Creek and Colorado Springs, so it is not necessary to go that way. Other recommendations welcomed.
How much time do you have, Steve? And what are your dates?
I would strongly suggest via Rocky Mountain National Park, the jewel of Colorado, dependent on time of year, of course. Trail Ridge Rd is scheduled to open in its entirety on May 23, dependent on our weather. It is only open partially on both ends at this time.
Leaving Arches on 5/24 and want to reach Memphis by the afternoon of 5/27
