12 day Seattle to San Francisco road trip

12 day trip Seattle to Carmel

Jul 12, 2014, 12:56 PM

From an East Coast girl, I'm looking for suggestions and feedback on the tentative itinerary I have. Two of the top things we want to do is explore the Redwoods do some wine country and spend 3 days in San Francisco. We are mid 40's and love the outdoors but also the city vibe. My bf lived in Portland for 10 years so he's pretty familiar with the west coast.

Here's what I was thinking, keeping in mind we don't want to spend more than 3 hours or so from destination to destination.

Arrive Seattle Aug 16 stay with friend

Day in Seattle Aug 17

Hop train to Portland Aug 18 stay at Crystal hotel

Day in Portland Aug 19

Drive to Brandon Aug 20 (no place to stay yet)

Day in Redwoods ending in Crescent City (not sure if this is realistic) Aug 21

On road to Napa Sonoma Aug 22 (no place chosen yet)

Day in Napa Aug 23

Day in Sonoma Mendocino area Aug 24

On road to Carmel at Tinkle Pink hotel Aug 25

Day in Carmel then head to SF Aug 26 stay in apartment

San Francisco Aug 27-Aug 29

Fly out SF Aug 30

I appreciate anyone's thoughts and feedback!

Thanks so much!

Some things are a bit off.....

The coastal town is bandon.

20 bandon to crescent city,

21 in redwoods..night in eureka.

22 drive eureka to Mendocino

23 Mendocino to napa on 128

24 Sonoma

You have ignored the wine area of Portland and Seattle. Outside Seattle is woodenvile. Which is mostly fronts for eastern Washington wineries located in yakima, walla walla, and other Columbia areas.

Between Portland and Eugene is Willamette valley along 99 parallel to I-5 many wineries.

Compare the osts of doing a one way rental from Seattle vs Portland rental + train ride.

On the August 21 -

Aug 21 through Aug 24 time

1) Do Mendocino first - its further north than Sonoma or Napa.

2) For Sonoma stay overnight in Healdsburg and see the northern end Sonoma wineries.

Lots of wineries in this area.

3) Next day drive Mark West Road from just south of Healdsburg to northern part of Napa Valley (Calistoga) and then explore the wineries of Napa valley staying in Napa city that night. Lots of good restaurants in downtown Napa.

Best Western Elm House is quite nice for a one night stay if you can get in.
