What's worth visiting from SLC to Reno area?

Hi!

I'm still planning a roadtrip and trying to figure what's worth visiting or stopping by between SLC area and Reno.

More details: in fact i'll be coming back from Yellowstone to Yosemite having already seen LV, GC and so on, so I got not real other route I guess.

Thank you!!

Most interesting is the drive on us50 to Delta, Great Basin NP, Ely and Loneliest rd of America to Fallon/Reno. Basin and Range coutry but coming from Yellowstone it's not fastest way. Suggest to drive via Craters of the Moon to Twin Falls, Jackpot, Wells to Elko and I80 to Reno. West of Elko is an attractive visitor center.

Yellowstone to Reno....the shortest route doesn't put you through SLC. To go to Yosemite through salt lake city is a 2 day drive by driving US 50. If driving this route you should add another day to see great basin national park.

If you take the highway 80 route (note: There is signifant truck traffic but fast road except for the construction areas), things to see are:

1) Great Salt Lake - take the turn of to the state park if you want some pictures.

2) If you want a good buffet lunch or want to try your 'luck" at gambling Wendover Peppermill (and other casinos in the area are ok.)

3) Then drive to Elko you will see the beautiful Ruby Mountains. When you get to Elko, if you want to spend the night Red Lion has nice rooms and restasurant/Starbucks on site. There is a small museum in town as well as Western Folklike Center (in late January there is the yearly bational cowboy poetry festial here.)

4) There is a really nice drive from here to see spectacular mountain country - they nicknamed it Nevada's Yosemite .....you will see this if you stop at the signs when you first enter the park. It is truly spectacular country with not that many people

5) From there it is about a 4 hour drive to Reno......Close to Reno before you get to Sparks we often see wild horses here You can also take a small detour and go see Pyramid Lake.

You might be interested seeing the Park City area just east of Salt Lake City before your drive on highway 80 I stayed there (got great rates on rooms via expedia - luxury condo).....and stayed one night in Elko on my drive from the area to Reno.
