Entering the Olympic Park during the Olympics

I had hitherto assumed, from all the discussions about buzz and atmosphere during the games, that the Olympic Park would be open to all comers during the games, not just to those with tickets to a venue there that day.

However, the discussion about the closure of the ViewTube on another thread now has me worried that the park is accessible only to ticket holders.

Anyone know what the reality is?

Nope, no one knows what the reality is.

We do know Olympic Park will only be open to "ticket holders." Anyone with a ticket to an event in Olympic Park can get in. What we don't know is whether they will sell/give-away tickets that just let people into Olympic Park, but not into any event. LOCOG says they will, but hasn't figured out the details. Call me a cynic, but I won't believe the tickets will be offered until the details are announced.

Article with a bit of info on this, plus lots of other ticket info:

Sold? So we'll have to pay to get there? Any views on what prices will be?

Think of it as reducing the burden on the British taxpayer.

By charging us again for what we've already paid for?

You havent already paid for it. In the same way tickets to events arent free, or food isnt free. Its a cost to people who want to go. I'm sure if you are suggesting it be taxpayer funded, which is the alternative, you might get a few hostile reactions

Answering your question in 3, I cant find prices anywhere, I'm sure I saw mention of them previously but nothing shows up when I look.

It does seem to limit the scope for getting involved in the much-vaunted atmosphere of the games, though.

For those of us who haven't been allowed tickets to local events, what is now left for us to get involved in for the "fun" of the Olympics?

Which are what? I've not seen any information for anything special being put on except the sporting events. Is there some other information somewhere that I'm missing?

There is the London 2012 Festival which is part of the Cultural Olympiad.

I'm sure Brazil and Russia will have a presence in London to promote their upcoming Olympics. There will also be the live sites for people who want to watch the Olympics together in a public setting.
