Darwin Uluru

Hello, We have booked the Ghan from Darwin to Alice with return to Adelaide in August. I need advice re fitness/mobility requirements for tours from Alice Springs. This is our first trip up north. We require specific info given that I have some mobility arthritis difficulties though can walk etc (I do not need escort or wheelchair) if I know distances and degree of slopes/paths. Having a nice safe place to stay with cultural tours would be preferable and my husband can do higher fitness activities on a daily basis. I need informed information. Travel agents have just given us books and no informed advice. there is no activity/fitness legend in the mag's.

Please help!

Much thanks

You probably will get more help if you post this on the appropriate Australia forum. There is a chance that somebody reading here will know your answer, but a better chance on the Australia forum.

Having said that, the path around the base of Uluru is very flat and very well maintained, at least it was several years ago when I was there. It is not short. I forget the total distance but recall spending about 2 hours walking the base. I was alone and in fairly good shape, so I would estimate 6-8 km.

Hi Rhonda

You would be best to post this on the Australia forum tripadvisor.com.au/ShowForum-g255055-i120-Au…

AAT Kings is one of the well known companies that runs day (& longer) tours in the NT http://www.aatkings.com.au/au/ You would possibly be best to contact them by email to ask about specific tours.

We have returned from the NT just a few days ago, we did it all independently with flights & car hire. I found the NT tourism site useful for planning http://en.travelnt.com/
