european campsite

Hi, We are planning a trip in our campervan next summer. We need to visit family in Holland (Friesland) and then would like to travel on to a campsite for 7/8 nights.

We have 3 children aged 12, 9 and 6 who love swimming pools and water slides. We also want somewhere with cycle paths/ walks and near either a beach or a lake, and also good weather!

We don't mind a bit of a drive and are happy to have an over night stop somewhere, either on the way from Holland to the campsite, or from the campsite to a port to get home.

Any suggestions??!!

Hi, it may be a bit far for you but we had a great holiday at the Union Lido site near Venice. Our kids 13, 9 and 5 loved it. Great pool complexes and right on a blue flag beach.

Thanks, this looks great! Might be a little far though, it would mean an overnight stop both ways (Holland - venice and also Venice to a port) Maybe when we have more time...

Friesland already has many places for that. Where are you heading from Friesland? You can drive over Afsluitdijk to Den Oever and find a spot behind the dunes like in Callantsoog. Bergen or Egmond and more places.

How far do you want to drive?

We will be in friesland for about a week before hand. We have been told this is a great area for cycling etc, but really want some 'guaranteed' weather for a week afterwards. Was thinking France/ switzerland??

Any good campsites with water slides near a beach or on a lake anyone can reccommend?

There's no guaranteed warm weather in this part of the world. maybe southern France (Riviera) but that would mean 2 long days of driving from Friesland. (1400 kms). Bit closer will be Normandy (900 kms) but weather at the Atlantic coast is unpredictable. Great beaches tough. Normandy also will be more on the way home. Switserland also does not have guaranteed warm weather.

Friesland is great voor cycling, hiking and watersports.

I Agree with Tet14, totally right, For southern france actually is good and the suitable place for your campsite, but would take so long drive, for Switzerland will be cold for you to do tha Camp there.

So I would suggest Friesland too as the most suitable place, close warm and will meet all your travel need.

Belguim has some good campsites that are nearer to Holland than France/Switzerland/Slovenia. A company my neighbour uses has indoor pools and lovely park settings, suncamp.co.uk.

I's suggest also looking at the Eurocamp and Keycamp websites too, for sites in Belgium and Holland. You don't have to book with any of these companies, but they can privide site information/location etc, and you may be able to contact the sites directly to see if they accept campervans.

In the southern part of The Netherlands is an amusementpark just perfect for kids that age. It's the famous Efteling but it can be quite busy in summer:
