Euorpe Single Dad with 13 y/o daughter and 17 y/o son

We arrive in Amsterdam 9 am June 4th and will be wandering around Europe for two weeks. We can depart from any city we wish. I would really appreciate some suggested travel schedules that include Paris and Amsterdam with my son and daughter. I want them to see some European Gardens, we enjoy the outdoors...hiking, bike riding, boating, history, horses, city life, cooking.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Are you renting a car for this trip? And deliver it in Amsterdam again or do you want to use public transport. Definitely go without a car in Amsterdam and Paris isn't that easy either. 2 weeks is not a lot of time. Already spend some 3 days for Amsterdam alone and at least same time for Paris. Maybe visit Bruge between Amsterdam and Paris.

Hi Flfitguy...............TripAdvisor has created destination forums that give travellers the most comprehensive advice for travel within that city and surrounding areas........for advice on Amsterdam and its environs, post on the Amsterdam forum...for Paris, you could post on the Paris forum, and so on...............when you click on one of the blue links in this post you will find the TA Travel Guide for that city which contains much information necessary to help you plan your itinerary, and some even have sample itineraries, and you will have easy access to the forums, so the local experts can give you current information/advice....both Amsterdam and Paris have sample 3 day itineraries already planned and can be found by clicking on the blue links on this post, as mentioned....

I'm taking a guess here and thinking you are hoping to visit more than Amsterdam and Paris. Both lovely cities, but no oportunities for hiking, horse riding etc. If you want city life and history you may need to compromise , or consider a mix and match holiday. If that's the case, I'd suggest a few days in either Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels or London and some time in any of the surrounding countryside.

There is a European company, www.centreparcs .com that has holiday camps ( lovely too, don't be put off by the name, this isn't camping in tents!!) that provide excellent accommodation and outdoor actvities for families. So plenty of biking, boating, swiming, horse riding etc. I don't know about the ones in France, but the UK, Holland and Belgian sites are very good.

... if you are willing to go a bit further south, I'd suggest Barcelona and/or Rome, both great teen-friendly cities. You can easily fly low-cost to both from any capital in Europe. Get more info here:

BARCELONA, http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/ and infocatalonia.eu/w/2013/12/21/welcome2bcn/

ROME, http://www.turismoroma.it/?lang=en

Exploring La Costa Brava can be also a great adventure for you three: infocatalonia.eu/w/… get detailed info at the regional tourism board: http://en.costabrava.org/

Also, the area of the Pyrenees is great for trekking and nature-related sports. You can find plenty of activities in different areas of these impressive mountains which reach three different countries, but since I'm more familiar with the area nearer to my hometown, I'll suggest you have a look here: http://www.lleidatur.com/ and http://www.visitpirineus.com/ and if you'd like to see some videos here: infocatalonia.eu/w/…
