Grand Canyon

1. Which airport is best to fly into when visiting the Grand Canyon. I don't want to spend a day in travel just getting from the airport to a hotel in the Grand Canyon area.

2. I need hotel suggestions, that have a pool, onsite restaurant, and are reasonably priced without being lower end hotels that may not be comfortable to stay at.

3. Any suggestions for additional "must see" activities to do besides visiting the Grand Canyon???

Because your questions are specific to the Grand Canyon, I would recommend posting your question on the Grand Canyon/Arizona Forum. Do also include in your post the time of year you plan to visit, as the north rim of the Grand Canyon is closed in the winter. The South rim is open year round. The North rim lodging and restaurants are open May 15 - Oct 15, visitor center til October 31.

As an fyi, do note that the Grand Canyon is a vast, and remote natural area, it is difficult to get there - that's part of the wonder. You will need to travel some distance from either the Phoenix (3.5/4+ hrs), Las Vegas (4+ hours) or Flagstaff (1.5 hrs) airports, unless you plan to arrive by small plane or helicopter.

Agree with above comment- any where you come from will be a bit of travel to get there. If you are staying at the south rim, there are more options for lodging and the Grand Canyon Park Lodge is inside the park. Most of these facilities are modest but clean. The restaurant there has a decent selection (cafeteria style) and is very convenient. If you are planning a few days in the area, Sedona and Flagstaff (which has a small airport) are nearby and great to experience as well.

There are no pools inside Grand Canyon National Park. Some motels outside the NP at Tusayan have pools though but best is to stay inside the NP for the best experience. www.grandcanyonlodges.com www.tusayanhotels.com 4 lodges sit right at the rim: El Tovar, Kachina, Thunderbird and Bright Angel. Maswik and Yavapai on a short distance. Flagstaff is the closest ap but all flights go via Phoenix first so I recommend to fly Phx and rent a car from there. And see Sedona on the way to GC.
