sandals Negril or Dunn's River

I've been offered either of these instead the White house. The first offer was Montego Bay which I'd seen bad reviews for. It's so confusing and it's a really special birthday gift for my DOH so I want to get it right.

I'm also getting no form of help from Sandals!!

it all depends on what you want out of your trip as to which resort you should stay, as everybody likes the different resorts for different reasons. if you want to venture out at nite Negril would be your best bet as there are many options.. been to SN 5 times, this trip in Nov we are stayin at SRC wife wants to try the city feel of Mobay as she's never stayed or visited mobay..

just chill Negril is def the spot, small the kinda place where the staff knows your name, very quiet for the chill factor, and then you have all the clubs down the road a 3.00 taxi ride you could walk it but wouldn't recomend it as is a two lane road that can get crazy at nite with traffic otherwise it is safe.. dunns i'd say is a lil more party atmosphere, and if you wanted to go to dunns falls you're already near. but if you are lookin for nite life and you can stay up long enough then Negril is the place as Dunns is away from town

Both have their good points (and bad) – maybe go with the one that has the least price difference with what you booked at Whitehouse. Don’t know what level you booked – as far as the room is concerned, basic at SDR is better than basic at SN, concierge at SN may be better at SN than SDR, butler at SDR is awesome.

If you want chill go to Negril. Negril is also more like Whitehouse with the nice beach. I love Dunns to but it is more busy and the beach is nothing even close to compareable. Go with Negril.

I actually think Dunn's is the better choice for "chill" than Negril just because the beach is so public there. We loved our stay at SDR last December and were able to find a quite spot, especially over by the piano bar pool.

You would also have the free exchange priviledges with SGOR for extra dining options and the amenities there. Not everyone's cup of tea but definintely worth checking out...very different from SDR.

Sorry Sandals is not being very helpful to you. This is where working with a Certified Sandals Specialist travel agent would have been a good idea.

Best of luck & happy birthday to your DOH!

Forget about Dunns, went there last Nov. 08 and hubby & I couldn't get out of there fast enough! we took a taxi at a cost of $200.00 to go over the mountain to get to Whitehouse..we had been there previously and new we would love it again. I would request Whitehouse..dont take no for an answer, but if they absolutely wont let you Negril is a great choice as well its what sold us on Sandals 9-10 years ago and we have been to them all except the inn and the Bahamas location! ..read my review dated 12/4/08..to bad about the Whitehouse you would have loved it....the beach at Dunns SUCKS! We were not very impressed with this location at all and we Love Sandals..so it was hard not to give them a glowing review..there were aprox 3 maby 4 peole on the whole resort who we liked and who went above & beyond but it just wasnt enough to shake off the Joke of a beach and the Monstrosity that sits right next door the RIU or Riu not sure its a brightly colored building and it is an eye sore and the other blogger is right the beach is all of about 200 feet and blocked off by a bobed wire fence (that is falling down) do yourself a favor and dont chance it go to Negril or better yet change your flights and go to St. Lucia! or Antigua feel free to write me directly and I will honestly & candidly answer any concers you have its more than your money..so make the right choice!

ConneticutJenny,

Whitehouse is closed until December 18th, which is why the original poster asked about Negril or Dunn's River. They were booked for Whitehouse and now have to choose another location.

I am very sorry to hear your experience at SDR was so horrible for you. It is not the case for a large majority of guests there. Glad to hear you enjoyed SWH though...there seems to be a Sandals to fit everyone's taste. : -)

Lsst November we stayed at Sandals Negril, Whitehouse and Dunn`s River, if we were lucky enough to revist them we would want to return to Negril without any hesitation.

I hope this helps

thanks everyone we tried for the Negril but couldn't get the level of room for our booked nights - so it was Dunn's or our money back. We really need a break - so anyone know the email for the mangers at Dunn's so I can organize a Birthday pressie for our arrival?/
