Shopping?

This will be our first trip to Whitehouse. We will be going in November of this year.

We have been to Jamaica several times but usually stay at SGR or Beaches in Ohco Rios.

White house looks spectacular. Only 241 more sleeps!! (oh man - thats a loooong time!!)

Anyway - question is - are there any markets close by? I love to pour over the local crafts!

What about locals selling on the beach? on the resort?

If there aren't any markets close by - are there any shopping trips? Wouldn't want to blow a whole day on shopping but I am hoping that there is a nice 1/2 day trip.

As always - any info is appreciated!

There were vendors on the property on 2 different afternoons through the week we were there. The resort is so far away from everything that I'm doubtful of a trip, but the experts will probably be able to tell you for sure.

There are no beach vendors b/c there is nothing on either side of the resort.

The gift shops were pretty extensive, at least compared to Negril.

Regardless, you will LOVE Whitehouse! We are going to SGR in July and have been to Negril... I'm excited to see another Sandals, but it was hard to tear ourselves away from going back to Whitehouse. You'll have a wonderful time!

TFW07, I hope you love SGR as much as we do. My husband and I have been there SIX times. Our last visit was in September 2012. We've been to all the Sandals properties, and SGR is in our top 3. We're going back to SWH in May and can't wait to see all the changes since we were there several years ago.

If you like seafood, please make sure to go to SGR's Soy for some great sushi and service. It was a far better dining experience for us than Kimonos, which is mostly about the show, so if you go, I hope you get a great performer/chef. If you go off property at SGR, try Scotchie's for an authentic Jamaican meal. It is a real treat!

By the way, I used to live in Richmond and still have friends/family there. It's a great area.

Thanks for the tips DD! We are super excited to try out what seems to be a very popular Sandals! Happy to hear it's still one of your favorites even though you've seen them all! Richmond is great- we've only been here about 4 years, but are really enjoying all it has to offer!

SWH blew me away, it is just SO beautiful... we were there last year, so there were many updates, although they were still working on rooms.

I hope both you and Milandralove will enjoy your time as much as we did!

TFW - little tip - if you go to Kimonos make sure you ask for TEX - he's a really great guy and does a fantastic show!

Can't answer the question about shopping but we will be there around the same time. 239 more sleeps for us! Coming in on the 9th - 16th. Looking forward to it!

TFW07, I just sent you a PM about our September trip to SGR. Hope you have a great time in July!

FYI, we'll be in Mechanicsville next month, so I'll wave in your general direction. :-)

Milandralove...the village of Whitehouse is very small and not touristry. They had a few "stalls" set up here and there with clothes, fruits and veg, and a fish market...and there are a few what they call cookshops for carryout, but it's mostly just a little fishing village.

There is an Island Routes excursion to Negril which includes shopping as well as a few other highlights for approx $80pp. As well, the Concierge usually offers an escorted shopping trip to Negril on Tuesdays (11am - 4:30pm) for $60pp.
