Need help...planning trip to Door County in September.

Looking to go to Door County in September. We are wanting to stay at a BnB. Looking for recommendations. Not sure which part of DC to stay in. Also looking for nice restaurants. I'm overwhelmed trying to make plans!!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There are many lovely B&B's in Door County, but it all depends on your price range and what you want in a B&B.

We have stayed at The Eagle Harbor Inn in Ephraim many times over the years and have been happy with our stays. The rooms are nice, and I got an email stating some have recently been updated. Not sure how many, you can call and ask. We stay in the Inn itself but they also rent out "condos". I have not stayed in them but our daughter and son-in- law have and they are very nice and roomy. When you stay in the modern condo, breakfast is *not included* but can be purchased separately. Either a basket can be delivered to your room or you can dine in the breakfast room or patio depending on weather. The location is great and Nedd and Natalie are your hosts.

The White Gull Inn is very nice also, more money and not as intimate because dining is open to the public. I recommend White Gull Inn also (we have personally toured the rooms, they are very nice!) Will be staying here in the future! It is walking distance to Fish Creek everything!

The White Gull Inn is known for the stuffed french toast yes, but they have a fabulous lunch menu. The soups and sandwiches are outstanding.

Those are my two B&B recommendations.

Do a search for door County B&B's. There are many!

I don't like to recommend a place that I have never been to.I We toured a couple others, which we did not care for. Look under B&Bs and read the reviews. I like reviews done by the Door County Navigator. And of course tripadvisor!

Nice restaurants:

We have enjoyed Mission Grille for fine dining.

or last year, Cooper's Corner ( I had the best salmon ever in my life there! )

Stay near Peninsula State Park; it's centrally located to the most popular activities. Try Fish Creek and Ephraim first, then Egg Harbor, Sister Bay, and Bailey's Harbor.

We have stayed at the White Gull Inn, the Blacksmith Inn in Baileys Harbor and the Lighthouse Inn in Egg Harbor and enjoyed them all. The one thing I liked about the White Gull Inn is the fact that as a guest you go to thier restaurant for breakfast and pick from the menu. The other advantage is the proximity to downtown Fish Creek. As far as fine dining goes, you can't miss with Trio in Egg Harbor, Inn at Kristoffers in Sister Bay, and T. Ashwells in Ellison Bay. I am also hearing good things about a new place in Ellison Bay called Vivo Vinos but have yet to dine there.

T. Ashwell's closed, and the chef/owner is now at Cherry Hills Golf Course.

The new restaurant in Ellison Bay is Pasta Vino. It's in the Hillside Motel. It relocated from Country Walk in Sister Bay.

French Country Inn in Ephraim:

The charm and history of Ephraim is wonderful. Their lovely sandy shallow beach areas, proximity to Peninsula State Park and great water views make this a lovely stop.

White Gull Inn for their renowned cherry stuffed french toast, Wilson's in Ephraim for dessert. You got a lot of great suggestions above.

Thanks for the update Rick MP, sorry to hear T. Ashwells closed, it was one of Door Countys best but just goes to show how tough it is to run a business up there.

We've stayed at the Blacksmith Inn on the Shore http://www.theblacksmithinn.com/ and just thought it was a beautiful place. Tastefully decorated with antiques, and all the rooms have a balcony overlooking the lake. Baileys Harbor was also pretty quiet, of course, we were there in the off season, so not sure what it would be like in September. We stayed in room 5 of the Zahn house (original house)...prices are a little steep for the peak season, but I thought well worth it. Also their breakfast is more a continental style buffet breakfast, but I thought one of the plusses of this was that we could take our breakfast back up to our room and eat out on the balcony.

I also posted some pictures of our room and view on our post...look for the post by NVTravelers under Blacksmith Inn.

Again, since we were there in the off season, not many of the restaurants were open. Sorry we can't help you there.

Since Sept. is already off season, Fish Creek may be a better option. More options will be available nearby. I'm a big fan of the quieter northern tip of DC, but your options will be much more limited there.
