Too late for reservations Aug 8?

My husband and I are trying to figure out what to do for a three day get away in Wisconsin to celebrate our anniversary. Is it too late to find accommodations for Aug 8th? We'd mostly be into the outdoorsy things-beaches, hiking, biking etc. but were hoping to find a nice romantic place to stay at night. Any suggestions on where to stay?

It's hard to say unless there's cancellations it may be fully booked. If you're not too picky I'd say you could find lodging in DC there's ample amount of choices, perhaps if you want to stay on the Bay side but are having trouble try the less crowded lake side for lodging. Fish Creek and Ephraim are desirable locations for being central in DC and outdoor activities but that being said "the Door" isn't huge and certainly the outdoors are intregal throughout. You could try White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, Bay Breeze Resort in Ephraim for starters. There are really so many wonderful options to choose from

French Country Inn (Ephraim). Great hosts, B and B experience, reasonably priced www.innline.com/doorweb/property.asp…

If DC is too busy then consider Three Lakes:

If price isn't an issue consider this outdoorsy feel and a great romantic location in Chetek:

If you are bringing your own bikes, stay in downtown Fish Creek, so you can ride right onto the Sunset Trail in Peninsula State Park. Start with the White Gull Inn or the Harbor Guest House. A less expensive option in the Main Street Motel. If you are renting bikes, also consider the nearby villages of Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Sister Bay, and Baileys Harbor-you can drive to Nor-Door in Fish Creek and rent bikes. If you can't find availability, telephone the visitor information centers in each village and ask for information on vacancies. You are visiting during the busiest time, but you could catch a break because you are looking midweek.

May also want to look at Homestead Suites in Fish Creek, clean, well run, indoor/outdoor pools and right near the entrance to Peninsula State Park. Acroos the street from two good restaurants, Wild Tomato and the Girbraltar Grill which has vastly improved as of late.

I usually stay at Pheasant Park in Sister Bay. Decent place and you aren't right in town, so the options of walking around are better.

We had good luck at the Somerset Inn and Suites. The reviews are accurate--it's a bit dated, but we were very pleased when we needed last minute lodging. We usually stay at Newport Resort in Egg Harbor (have also stayed at Highpoint) , but it was fine. There are other smaller, older places like this that may have availability when the other newer more popular ones get filled.

It's more like a large hotel room than the condos that are popular in DC.
