If Taos does not get any snow tonight, then head to Ski Santa Fe....we just got over 6" of snow in the flatlands outside of the city of Santa Fe. I can't imagine how much they got at the ski area.
Hope Taos got the same!! When are you visiting???
Wed. - Sat.
Taos is the grand-daddy of them all and everyone else pales in comparison in terms of skiing and offerings at the ski basin. Santa Fe is nice, but our opinion is that it's all about the convenience of the location to Santa Fe and Albuquerque, not about the skiing.
This time of year alititude is everything. So, despite the other post regarding large snowfalls at lower elevations, you have to actually visit the various ski valley websites to see what's happening.
Check out the Taos Ski Valley Website for current information: www.skitaos.org. According to their most recent postings, they have a whopping 86" base at the bottom with almost 100 trails open. We've been to the higher elevations recently and the snow's practically perfect at all levels. A late-week storm should be easy to navigate and will just add to the near-perfect conditions.
Ski Santa Fe has received 15" in the past 48 hours with a base of 138"!!!
Ski Taos has received 5" in the last 72 hours with a base of 86!
Angel Fire has received 5" in the past 72 hours with a base of 68.Edited: 17 March 2010, 03:35
The Taos area gained up to 7" last night (3/23/10). Snow depths and conditions at all Taos area resorts are as good as we've had for many years. Great deals available at some downtown hotels in Taos (as low as $99 for 3 nights for a single). Look for the Talk About Taos Tourism blog for regular snow and activity updates. Ski you soon!
