Port de pollenca vs Cala D'or vs Sa Coma

Hi,

Please help. Booking our first holiday with our 2 yr old boy and targeting September. Found some fantastic hotels but paralysed with indecision about the best resort. We rate beach, things in walking distance and not too loud as our priorities. Thoughts gratefully received.

Paul

Don't know Sa Coma ( until July when we will be staying nearby) But both CalaD'or and Porto Pollenca are great , the beaches are very different - coves in CD straight beach in PP . Both have things in walking distance and are busy but not frantic if you see what I mean. If you have found accommodation you fancy then why not tell us , then you will be able to get the best advice about noise and distance to beach, attractions etc.The decision may well be down to the best hotel for you in the end.

Hi RedimpLincoln

thanks for your response. After much deliberation these are the three we like best. They all have pro's and con's.

Any other suggestions?

What a difficult choice . The Playa Mar has always struck me as ideal for a family with small children if they don't mind a bit of a trek to the beach. The Sa Marina always looks lovely but personally I prefer Cala Egos part of Cala d'or and again its a bit of a trek to the beach. Sa Coma Playa looks good , highly regarded chain especially for families.

If you are going at the beginning of September the beaches at Cala D'or will still be very full as they are coves- the other resorts would have more room.

One more suggestion would be the Protur Bonaire in Cala Bona ,

It may be down to resort or price in the end - Most contributors on here would probably say Pollenca , Cala D'or then Sa Coma but all would give you a great holiday as would Cala Bona .

We have been holidaying in PP for the last 5 years or so, as well as first time about 10 years ago, when our kids were 1 and 4. Also been to Sa Coma twice in between these times.

Sa Coma is a nice place, quite clean and the beach is lovely, however, for me, PP is the place (not been to Cala Dor). It is a bit more low key, not so many big hotels and in my opinion just generally a nicer resort (better restaurants). I would say Sa Coma is more generic touristy (modern) whilst PP has more charm and tradition about it.

Hope this helps.....

Visited both in the last 5 years although I've never stayed in cala D'or, port pollenca has a more upmarket feel where as cala D'or Has a more package holiday feel (I mean in a nice way). Cala dor is on my holiday short list, it's grat for families.

Aparthotell playa mar is great for toddlers we holidayed there many times when ours were that age. Very nice resort too with nice authentuc resort feel to it. Tried cala d or last year. Yes we liked it and daughters 14 and 11 loved it but it is slightly more touristy and commercialised. Lovely marina, safe coves for swimming and nice friendly atmosphere too. Not been to sa coma or cala bona though but bonaire gets great reports on here. Hope its some help.

Paul, it's a very trixy question you've asked. When similar questions to this have arisen in the past, when comparing PP & COD, there's been a danger of World War 3 breaking out - as PP has its strong fanbase and COD has its (different) strong fanbase as well. The good news is that it's great to have a choice - and there's no right answer as to which is better - everyone has their own preferences and priorities.

My vote goes to PP, and I especially endorse the comments made in post nos 5 & 6 above.

How about spinning a coin this year, try that - and then next year go to the other place - and then decide which fanbase to join.

Thank you for all your answers. Much appreciated. We have decided to go for PP staying at the playa mar. Am already counting down to a bit of sunshine!
