It is probably too early for next year for most sites.

If you are looking for accommodation in peak period and wanting to go midweek to midweek say, then the hotel may have empty rooms for the odd days so you will have problems.

airbnb I have heard good and bad. The people who let out rooms are not like a hotel which has a reputation to uphold.

I usually use booking.com which is quite cheap, has a good selection and has a no fee cancellation. There are other companies like lowcostholidays and the like.

For several years now I've used the well-regarded site linked below. It introduces you to the owner and from there on all contact is with the owner, not the site. All payments are to the owner, not the site.

Even though many adverts say Sat-to-Sat changeover, that is often negotiable with the owner, especially for early bookings. If something takes your eye, then it's always worth asking.

We use AirBnb and 9flats.com (a competitor) a lot - and have had excellent results. Lots of people we know have started using them too, and none have expressed any discontent.

In fact, AirBnb has become so popular, that governments around the world are now demonising them for offering supposedly "illegal" private lets that aren't paying tax on their earnings, and I'm sure there's truth in that.

However, nobody paid any attention before it became a measurable "trend".. It is widely presumed that the newfound demonisation is a result of AirBnb and their likes causing a lot of competition for local hotel cartels. The prices are generally much lower than hotels, and the accommodations are often much better, which may explain a lot about their viral rise to popularity.

You're right to do your research as this is about your holiday. We do stay in hotels but we like self catering so I checked out airbnb a year or so ago and decided not to use them. They first emerged from a student start up in San Francisco and they have risen to colossal proportions . We found a lot of negative reviews, both from hosts and renters. I haven't looked at them for a while so things could well have changed for the better. Whenever I'm checking out a company I just put the name in the search bar and let google take the strain. In this case, "airbnb reviews". See what comes up, good and bad and make your decision from there. I might well check the feedback out again to see if things have improved. Let us know what you think.

Booking.com and other sites like it also have villas and apartments. For most, you don't need a deposit upfront and mostly you don't pay a penny until you arrive (self catering) or check out (hotels). They are taking bookings for next summer.

There is a local company in PP called Marfan that gets good reviews. A company I've used and would

recommend is Finishing Touch Holidays.

I am surprised two websites haven't been mentioned yet.

1. holidaylettings.co.uk

2. fewo-direkt.de

These two have a lot of options for apartment bookings.
