Catalina Island- never been before, lots of questions

Hello,

My husband and I will be traveling to San Diego in November. Considering a day trip or overnight stay on Catalina Island. Hoping some experts on the area can help me out. TIA!!

1. What is there to do this time of year?

2. What is the weather typically like this time of year.

3. Can we take a ferry from somewhere in San Diego?

4. Is one day enough or should we do an overnight stay.

Oh and what is the difference between Avalon and the other areas mentioned? Which should we go to?

Clueless about this area. We are coming from NC for our anniversary. Any info and suggestions you can offer are greatly appreciated.

1. What is there to do this time of year?

Most everything is open and there are a lot of tours. We like to walk around in Avalon, maybe rent a golf cart for an hour or two and explore. They have a movie theatre in the "casino" (not a gambling casino but a gathering place), mini-golf, a 9 hole executive golf course, etc. Check out http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/ or the chamber of commerce website for ideas.

2. What is the weather typically like this time of year.

The weather in November can vary quite a lot. It can be sunny and warm or cold. It really depends and there's no way to know for sure.

3. Can we take a ferry from somewhere in San Diego?

The closest ferry will be from Dana Point on the Catalina Express. Dana Point is about 90 minutes north of San Diego. http://www.catalinaexpress.com/

4. Is one day enough or should we do an overnight stay.

That will depend on the activities you want to do while on the island. If you just walk around the main town, a day trip should be enough time. But if you want to take a tour of the interior, an overnight would be preferable.

Not sure what you are asking here.... what other areas?

Lots of boating / water activities, too. Rent kayaks or pedalboats, take a glass-bottom boat tour, etc.

Hi msshak,

A good place to start would be the website for the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau: www.catalinachamber.com. You will find answers to all of your questions, and a whole lot more!
