Arthurs Seat

Hi everyone, I want to spend the afternoon at the beach tomorrow and then visit a few wineries afterwards. Can anyone please recommend a nice beach near to Arthurs? Thanks

The closest beaches to Arthurs Seat would be those on Port Phillip Bay, such as Dromana, Safety Beach & McCrae - all about a 10-15 minute drive. These are 'bay beaches' so usually flat, calm & quite shallow - they provide a relatively 'safe swimming' environment. All nice wide, sandy beaches and lovely to spend a lazy afternoon. You'll probably see lots of little boats, maybe people water skiing, etc. These beaches are in prime holiday locations, opposite a busy main road (but with a decent buffer of lawn & trees). Across the road from the beaches there are lots of houses, shops, restaurants, etc.

In the opposite direction you have the beaches on Western Port Bay, such as Pt Leo, Shoreham & Merricks (about 20 - 30 minute drive). These are more like 'ocean beaches' or surf beaches, in that the water gets deep close to the shore, and they are rougher water with strong currents. You will likely see people surfing at these beaches. If it's low tide, there are interesting rock pools to explore. These beaches are in less developed areas, so very few houses and just an occasional small 'take-away' food shop - beautiful coastal scenery and sandy beaches. Note: at high tide, the water can come right up the beach so the sand almost disappears for an hour or two. Point Leo has an extremely long & wide sandy beach, so still plenty of sand at high tide still. If you go to any of these beaches and plan on swimming, make sure you swim between the Life Saving flags (if they are in place) - these beaches can have dangerous currents, so stay close to shore and never get out of your depth.

It's a really beautiful drive between Arthurs Seat & the Westernport Bay beaches, and this area is where most of the wineries are located.
