Tarquinia on a Monday

Hello. We were planning on spending a day in Tarquinia this spring when our cruise stops at Civitavecchia. (We have been to Rome and prefer to avoid the crowds.) I just now realized that our one day is on a Monday and the museum and Necropolis will be closed. Should we rethink this day? Are there any Etruscan sights to see on a Monday? Is the town itself worth a relaxing quiet day?

Thanks!

There is no way I would go to Tarquinia if those things were closed unless you have a car and can drive up to the old town on the hill where Tarquinia used to be in Roman times

Agree with Lupaling. The town itself is very pleasant, but not worth the time wihout the museum and tombs

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I just discovered that the necropolis in Cervteri is open on Monday so maybe we will head that direction instead. We will have a rental car so if you have any other suggestions of things to do in the area accessible by car they are greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Cerveteri will be a very good alternative, providing both necropolis and museum. You might also consider Santa Severa - the castle there houses a smal museum, though I regret I cannot check at this moment if it is open Mondays (Mondays are a perennial problem for antiquities in Italy!)
