2. Connect to the Trenitalia unreserved regionale train from Roma TRASTEVERE Station to Tarquinia (5.60 Euros; 65 minutes travel time). This train runs hourly from Monday through Saturday and every two hours on Sundays.
3. You will need at least 5 minutes of ACTUAL connection time at Trastevere Station. Remember that the airport train might be running late.

Children up to the age of 12 years, 0 days travel FREE on the Trenitalia airport train if accompanied by a paying adult (extra children pay 50% of the adult fare).
Children up to the age of 12 years, 0 days (no matter the number) travel at a 50% reduction on the Trenitalia unreserved regionale trains.
Toddlers up to the age of 4 years, 0 days ALWAYS travel FREE on ALL Trenitalia trains, without a ticket and without a guaranteed seat.
4. Purchase the train tickets once you arrive at FCO. There are both electronic ticket machines and staffed ticket windows at the Trenitalia FCO Airport train station, and Trenitalia has just added a new ticket machine (and staffed information kiosk) on the arrivals level of Terminal 3. Note that you will pay a small supplement if you choose to purchase the train tickets from one of the travel agencies at the train station or in the terminal building.
Purchase tickets for BOTH the airport train AND the Tarquinia-bound train from the Trenitalia airport train station ticket office. Purchasing the tickets together may result in a total fare of just 11 Euros. That way, you avoid needing to stand in line at Trastevere Station, risking to MISS your connection. Also, the manned ticket windows at Trastevere Station are closed on weekends and after 13:00 on weekdays during the summer season. The Tarquinia station is unmanned.
You MUST validate each ticket prior to boarding the respective train. Validation machines are found at the head of the departing platform. Failure to validate the ticket can result in the payment of a hefty fine.

FROM THE TARQUINIA TRAIN STATION TO TARQUINIA:
When you get off the Trenitalia regionale train at the Tarquinia Station, take the local shuttle bus (operated by Eusepi bus lines) to the Barriera San Giusto Gate. Purchase the ticket (80 cents?) from the driver. The bus takes 10 minutes to cover the 3 kilometers into town.
(click on "scarica orario invernale linee urbane") Note that these schedules may not be current.
Get off the bus, walk through the San Giusto Gate, and within 50 meters you'll be smack in front of the Museo Nazionale Archeologico. The Hotel San Marco is on your right. The Etruscan tombs are a very pleasant 17 minutes on foot (1200 meters) from the museum, walking up Corso Vittorio Emanuele and turning right at Piazza Matteotti onto Via di Porta Tarquinia, past the church of San Francesco and the city walls, onto Via Ripagretta and the Strada Provinciale 43.
Don't miss wandering through the Medieval section of Tarquinia, to the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Castello, 450 meters from the Archeological Museum.
