Car Hire swizz

I have been doing some research about the big swizz that is car hire in Alicante. Is there really no way to get around being ripped off for petrol? I will probably only use a quarter of a tank!!

We need 4 cars with baby car seats for one week. its going to cost more than the villa!!

We've been using Centauro out of Alicante and San Javier for over 20 years, and even though you pay for a full tank of petrol on pick up, if you have over half left when you return it, they will check and refund you.

The only downside to this company now is if you don't take out their excess insurance policy, they will want a 600 euro deposit. They don't actually take it off your credit/debit card if you return the car in the condition you received it, so you don't have to wait to be refunded. Just make sure when you collect your car you check it for scratches, dents etc and get them to sign the hire form as such. They only started doing this last month, but we had no problems with them recently.

Hi I used Costa Blanca transfers and they were excellent. Value for money, smooth transaction, greeted at the airport and no advance petrol costs just return full and therefore only pay for what you use.

Hi,

Don't post often so have had to register again on here. We have used costa blanca transfers several times from San Javier airport as we have an apartment at La Torre. They have always been great value for money, reliable, friendly and they only charge for the fuel you use. I am using them again this summer and wouldn't use any other company.

Hello Gorfield from Manchester. You have had 3 positive recommendations of Costa Blanca Transfers which should be enough to convince you to try them. Mine is the 4th. These guys are extremely easy and friendly to deal with. They meet you at the airport gate, take you to the car and after a little paper work for the benefit of both parties, you are on your way. To be honest the cars are not new by any means, but always clean and tidy and should you have a problem, they are only a phone call away and will attempt to resolve that problem "asap". I speak from experience. Petrol….just bring the car back with a similar amount as it had when you took it out. That's not to difficult is it? There is a gas station right outside the airport. "Full insurance with no excess to pay" is minimal, and no where near what the big boys charge per day. Costa Blanca Transfers are worth trying, if you want to end your holiday without a bad taste in your mouth from some car rental company that has excessive charges.

We have used several car hire firms over the past few years. Last year we used costa blanca transfers, we were met by a very friendly member of staff at the airport, taken to the cars and were on our way very quickly. There were no up front costs for fuel (cars have a full tank and you give them back with a full tank) and we were provided with booster seats for no extra cost. We were so impressed with the service provided that we have booked cars again this year.

This may be slightly controversial, but try taking a look at www.goldcar.es . They've had a lot of bad reviews in the past. Just recently have completely changed all of their policies, but only for customers that book direct. They now show you the price of their 'Relax insurance' online, so you can buy in advance, and they'll refund you for any unused fuel in the tank at the end of your trip, meaning no need to re-fuel yet still only pay for the fuel you use.

Only drawback is that they are likely to have queues.
