Japan Family Holiday

Anyone been to Japan with their family. Any recommendations, places to see, things to do? There will be 4 of us. My girls 16 & 14 want to see Mt Fuji, and Otaku (Geek) street. I have heard Disney Sea – Odaiba – Asakusa - Akihabara - Kyoto are all worth a visit. Is there any Outlet Shopping? We have done Disney Land LA, so not sure we need to do that again. I know nothing about Japan. Would like to venture out of Tokyo, mabe a few nights near Mt Fuji. We like Nature, not sure if there is anything like our National Parks to stay. I would like to see a bit of Culture along with the fast past of Tokyo city. Assuming we would need 10 - 12days. Thx Kylz

We're currently on holidays here ( kids 11, 15 and 17). Depending whether your kids like travelling, i would recommend the Japan rail pass ( you have to buy beforehand the voucher). We were very impressed by Hiroshima, the museum has done a terrific telling such a heartwrencing story. Furthermore, we loved Nara, definetely take a day to visit this. Although Kyoto is beautiful, we visited it after Nara and had seen some of it already. We also liked the different styles of accomodation, traditional Japanese, guesthouse and finally at Tokyo luxe Disney hotel. Don't expect estethic beauty here, all cities, and even the country side is thoroughly "ruined" by amazingly bad public planning. But it is a lovely country with welcoming people. The overall level of English is very poor ( to the level of non-existence). One final tip when planning some travels by rail, choose an accomodation close to a JR station, saves some time on travel. And when booking in advance, plenty of availibility will be there even in summer period was my experience. Enjoy the trip!

Disney Sea is not like anywhere else in the world. You might (for sure) want to visit there!

Thank you Petrus111, Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. Sounds like Japan might be a little outside your comfort zone, and thats exactly what we want. We have travelled USA extensively along with the Pacific Islands and coming from Australia we really want a cultral experiance. We are thinking of 5-6 day Tokyo, 2 nights Hokone, 5 day Kyoto. As a family of 4 we would like to stay in one room if possible, have you been able to book 1 room, or have you had to book 2? Do you have any suggestions on where in city's to stay? My daughters are studying Japanese at school, so Im hoping they will help us with the langue barrier. kylz123
