Does anybody know what the situation with the rubbish is in Roda? Has it been that bad that it’s affecting people’s holidays?
Some people will let anything spoil their holiday, and others won't. Corfu has a waste disposal problem but it is being kept away from the resorts wherever possible. Roda's rubbish is currently held outside of the main village and it is entirely possible that most visitors don't even know where that is. We have family here at the moment and they didn't even know about the issue. If you travel beyond the village, you are more likely to see the extent of the problem.
Thanks for the reply Steve. We know it’s been an issue for the last few years that we’ve been coming to Corfu but it’s not really bothered us. Heard a few horror stories this year so was just wondering how bad things were around the resorts.
Thanks for the update. We’re over in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed it’ll stay that way.
Hi I'm in roda now and advise you that the big pile of rubbish on the main road outside the village has been removed. By the way it's been raining on and off for last few days
Riot police arrived in Lefkimimi yesterday in an attempt to keep access to the new waste tip open. Locals have been blockading the area. It’s still a long way from a long term solution.
Yes. Three times. I have also visited eleven other Greek islands and, the Pelepponese and Athens. Have you ever visited any of the other islands? Have you ever noticed the absence of piles of rubbish in the streets on those islands? Do; you ever wonder why that is?
Will it spoil yoru holiday, if you walk out of town and stare at the piles of uncollected rubbish and take pictures of if and inhale the stench, then yes it probably would spoil your holiday.
But the reality is that for the majority of holidaymakers it makes no difference as they tend to pile the rubbish away from the beach / bars / restaurants and as such it's not an issue, unless of course you want to make it an issue, if you do then by far the largest pile of rubbish was at the roadside just outside Kavos, but it is possible that they've cleared it up now, so don't make a special trip to see it.
Saying piles of rubbish and the accompanying stench from it won’t spoil your holiday is ridiculous. This isnt happening on any other island, and there’s nothing like a dirty place to put you off ever going again, You can’t avoid seeing it when you go out, so of course it will have a negative impact on most of us. It’s not actually what you expect after spending a fortune to holiday on a lovely island like Corfu, and needs to be addressed ASAP.
