Gyros in Alykes

Hi All - we have been to many Greek Islands and Mainland Greek destinations but this will be our first time to Alykes and Zante. A question for you - are there any Gyros cafes in Alykes? Sometimes, if you dont fancy a 'sit-down' meal - a Gyros hits the right spot!

Almost anywhere which is a greek cafe/restaurant you can get a Gyros, you don't have to have just a full meal.

Hi there - sorry, my query probably wasnt clear. Looking for the Gyros specific little places that specialise in take-away Gryos/Souvlaki (but you can also sit down and eat if you want to, and wash it down with a cold beer). & talking of beer, what is the average price of a large bottle of Alfa/Mythos/Fix/Amstell or whatever in Alykes Village? Many thanks

There are a couple of places in Alykes that i know of that are Greek 'fast food' places selling gyros. One is called Paulos Corner and there is another I think near the Sugarbush Bar.

A bottle of Mythos is 2.50 to 3 euros.

You will find that most places provide a take away service. Just up the road in Alykanas the Stonehouse and Mantelena's have excellent reputations for take away gyros.

Hi, price of mythos is aprox 2.5 euro. There are gyros available, as alykes is so small you will soon find them. If you are looking for somewhere really nice to eat in the evening try Fidelio on the crossroad, we have just come home and the staff and food are lovely. Just to warn you, half of the beach has been eroded to pebble following some early storms. Can I fit in your suitcase for my 11th visit there please

Dear Rognestir

Thank you for your reply - I'm sure we will 'sniff' them out!! Thanks for the tip regarding Fidelio, will give it a try. I have also received a recommendation for To Paradosiako Taverna - did you try that one? Shame to hear about the beach, although I dont mind pebbles, we are staying at the Seaview and I believe it's pebbly up that end too. It's funny, we have been all over the Greek Islands and Mainland, but always avoided Zante due to bad press but I have a feeling we may like Alykes - I'm hoping that is still a little traditional so that I can continue to practice my basic Greek! Would love to squeeze you in my suitcase but I only have 15kgs - so I'm going to struggle!

If you are staying at Seaview then on the approach road to Alykes there is Paulo's corner. When we were there in June he had 10% off the food bill and free wine and he does a fab gyros. We ate there 9 nights it was so good and couldn't spend more than 20 euros no matter how much we ate.

Paulos

is excellent I ate there a couple of times ( try the' panful').

We were the only english in there, the rest were greeks. It has a constant supply of customers (greek for the take away service,), But is only open in the evenings.

He is roughly in the middle of the salt lakes on the beach side.

Another great place( for pizza take away) is paradise , also slightly away from the main town. Eat in meals are also superb Also has many greek customers for the pizza take away service .

Another to try ( for gyros) is on the far side of the salt pans from the village but can't remember the name. he has a pool side bar that does gyros all day sit in but very reasonable. He also has a good taverna at the other end of his property which does excellent meals, with a variety of veg not found in the other tavernas.

There are a couple of other places in alykes , but i did not try them.

Enjoy.

We tried Paulos corner - not bad! However, in our opinion, the Gyros at the new Pita Break Grill House were really nice and lovely and fresh . My husband couldnt stop at just one! Cheap and lots of different varieties/combinations available. Recommended!
