Tessera to City of Venice via bus line 5

We will be staying in Tessera and traveling back and forth to the city of venice. We planned on getting a venice card but heard you can't use the card on the line 5. Technically we would be using the card to go back and forth from Tessera( one stop prior to the airport) to the Piz. Roma stop. Would we still be able to use the Venice card? We are gettign a really good deal at the Marriott's Courtyard (about 40 euros a night) would this be worth the hassel of commuting back and forth? I know we can find a hotel for that price MAYBE near venice but it would not be anywhere near the same quality.

It is a lot cheaper to stay there, you are right you would not get anyway nearly as cheaply in Venice, but you would really be missing a lot by staying so far out Venice, one of the best times in Venice is early Morning and the Evenings after the day trippers have gone,

The Buses are not now included in the Pass, each trip would cost you

€5,, although you can get a discount on the Bus on Venice Connected but I would not think it could be got for on going journeys, just the one off trips there and back to the Airport,

The trip between Tessera and Piazzale Roma IS included completely in the Tourist Travel Card (the bus and vaporetto pass purchaseable either at the airport, in Venice itself, or via the VeniceConnected website). What is called specifically the "VeniceCard" (with that name) is NOT a transport pass, but a culture/museum pass.

This is one case where the ACTV website is rather clearer than usual, stating that [the higher fare is applicable only in the case of] "JOURNEYS HAVING VENICE MARCO POLO AIRPORT AS DEPARTURE OR ARRIVAL POINT (IN-TOWN BUS SERVICES)" so starting at Tessera, one stop away, allows the bus/vaporetto pass to be used normally like any other place on the mainland for urban buses. Absurdly enough, were you to use the n°5 bus to reach your hotel, it would seem to require the Aerobus-add-on fare or separate ticket for the short ride/one stop. Perhaps the hotel also has a free or low cost shuttle service?

The possibility to find such a low hotel rate in Venice would depend on the time of year, but would probably be very difficult in any case.
