good, bad, ugly on our final 3 hotels

Hello, travelling to Langkawi end of September 4 of us late 40's. First timers, who are seeking a bit of luxury a nice beach, pool, restaurants, snorkelling, and generally just laying back and absorbing the feel of Langkawi. Location is important. We dont want to be too isolated and away from it all. We would like to have the option of dining outside the resort. Nice beach, nice pool, nice scenery. We are basically there to chill, sit back, relax beside the pool/beach read, eat, sip some beverages, and want to feel from our hotel surroundings that we are on holiday absorbing what Langkawi. has to offer. Any recommendations from other TT'ers appreciated.

Hi janine1

I envy you....I love Langkawi for exactly the reasons you have mentioned.

The only thing you won't be able to ge is decent snorkelling. The waters around Langkawi are just not clear enough. Others have mentioned a day trip to Pulau, however I haven't done that so will leave it to you to search some threads for that.

We too are in your age bracket, and recently stayed at the Holiday Villa resort which s located at Pantai Tengah. While not considered luxurious, the rooms and facilities are more than adequate, however the surrounds and other additions more than make up for it.

The pool is absolutely awesome, and the resort fronts right onto the very quiet beach, with grassy verge leading down to the sand and water. It is like it is a private beach for the resort - although it is a public beach. There is a fabulous beach bar right at the beach attached to the resort where we managed to spend a lot of time.

We did not eat a the resort at all. We chose to eat outside for all meals, including breakfasts. There are a numbe of nice restaurants quite close to the Holiday Villa, and Cactus across the road was our choice each day for breakfast. The main restaurant and bar strip is at the adjacent Pantai Cenang and is a 20 minute walk, or $2 taxi ride away. Lots and lots of sensational eating options.

You will get lots of other suggestions as well, and will be well founded - however when we return to Langkawi we will stay at the Holiday Villa again.

Good luck in your search....no matter where you choose you will have a ball.

Hi

You could also try looking at Pelangi, Casa del Mar, Frangipani, La Pari Pari or for something really different Bon Ton, although this is not beach side.

All these hotels are within walking distance to lots of shops, bars and restaurants and you will have a really relaxing time of it at any one of them.

One thing you must do is a mangrove boat tour with one of the eco-friendly operators such as Dev's Adventures. You will find it extremely interesting and informative.

Enjoy

Lesley
