Pantai Cenang is a rather "busy beach", with jetscooters and banana boats. Somewhat noisy, but also charming in its own way. In general, in all of Malaysia , people are so friendly!
Pantain Cenang is very touristy, with lots of small stall-like shops in which they sell the usual colorfull stuff, sarongs, bikinis, etc.
We are "elderly" and prefer the quiet, but for youngsters, it must be a great place to be, if not The place to be.
Can highly recommend "Tomato", it is a small, Indian restaurant just by "BestStar" hotel. The place might not look like a big deal, but the service and the food was excellent? Do you like South Indian Dosai and Roti, then this is the place. (that's breakfast fare, so arrive before 11.)'
Further up on the beach, is Casa del Mar, a luxury hotel, I recommend dining at the beach there one evening.
There is also a hotel called "Malibest", with tree huts, etc, which intrigued me, although we didn't stay there. The tree huts are just on the beach! Not expensive, either.
The "beach boys" are overall very friendly and service-minded. 10 Ringgits per day for a sun chair, and they look after it for you when you go for lunch. (Although I don't think they assume any responsibility for your belonings....)
