i have been told that due to school vacations skiing in les arcs is too crowded mid February; we do not have children and prefer not to be in school group areas but can only go during this time in 2015. What is it like? Please help and suggest better options if this is not a good one for us and thank you

1. Re: crowds

All the major ski resorts are crowded mid February in France, it might be worthwhile looking at smaller lesser known ski areas if you want to avoid school children!

If you can then maybe look at Canada - we went to Whistler in school holidays and the area is SO huge that it really doesn't matter that much if it's busy. Sorry if this doesn't help, but just a thought :-)

3. Re: crowds

As SarumCrew said, all French resorts are crowded during February school holidays. Having said that, you can still have a good time as long as you are willing to be a bit creative with lifts. E.g,don't take the transarcs and use a combination of villards + grand renard. Dont try to get back to 1800 from 2000 at 16.30 in the afternoon unless you are willing to queue for a bit etc.
