Best sunshine coast destination for a family of 6

Hi,

I've just booked some airfares to the sunshine coast for late January 2014.

We have 4 children (8,5,3,2) and are after calm beaches, some nice restaurants and will be going to the zoo. We will hire a car so being close to the zoo is not that important.

We are not a keen on overcrowded areas, noisy night spots ect and would like some fairly nice accomodation with a nice pool/s. (not insanely priced but not budget either).

where would you suggest with our young kids who like to play on the beach and run in and out of the water paddling around? Whilst also some nice beach front places for lunch. Noosa, Noosaville, Mooloolaba, Caloundra ect

Thankyou in advance!

Hi,

All of the mentioned places (Noosa, Noosaville, Mooloolaba and Caloundra) tick all of your boxes, none have noisy nightlife and are all family oriented places with beach access and also handy beachfront cafes.

January is packed everywhere and prices are at a premium no matter which way you go.

Noosa is tiny, so traffic is insane and the beach crowded by 6am. Caloundra and Mooloolaba get more package tourists and the weekend crowds from Brisbane. All are lovely areas, very family oriented and driving from one end of the coast to the other takes about 45-60 minutes.

You might get a better deal 'down south' than in the Noosa area in January, considering you are traveling with a big family. In Noosa, you want to be as close to Hastings St so that you can get for beach access without driving or directly on Gympie Terrace in Noosaville on the river.

Noosa is more upmarket, a little more expensive and 'exclusive' than anything down south. Some people are die hard Noosa fans. Living here, we often drive to Caloundra/Mooloolaba for better playgrounds, cheaper food and more on offer for young children (Underwater World, Bli Bli Castle, Indoor PlayCentres, great aquatic centres, some great playgrounds....).

I was and our daughter was raised on holidaying at Caloundra, and we still go there today. For a family you can't beat it, from Kings Beach around to Bulcock Beach. Lots of water front accommmodation, a reaonable sized town centre, lots and lots of aprtments, great walks, safe beaches, parks, restaurants and a fantastic elevated boardwalk between Kings Beach and Bulcock Beach - http://tinyurl.com/p76sfzd

Travelling in January, no matter where you go it will be busy, and you better get busy booking your accommodation, a lot are booked 12 months in advance.

Good luck, have a great holiday.

Safe travels - Robert

Another thought is Rainbow beach. Its quiet beach and just a few restaurants, There is a nice apartment block / hotels with smallish pool - just cant think of the name- newish and nice polished apartments,

Rainbow has a great beach and is very noncommercial compared to t0 Noosa.

However, for family hols I also love Noosa or Sunshine beach.

All the above would be good for what you are looking for.

Have a look at bulcock beach and kings beach at Caloundra.
