best taverners/restaurants in nidri

hi, only a few weeks to go.

I have worked hard for the bikini body. but what is a holiday without good food? i enjoy a good evening meal out. Any sugestions in nidri as i dont wish to drive. This is entirely due to the fact that i also like wine as well as food:)

The Ionian is the best value taverna in Nidri, - and the most popular, its at the far end of the harbour facing tavernas (50m past the Chinese). I will be there next week!.

You'll need a cab but Dimitri's was always excellent - basic menu but very popular and very Greek!

There are so many restaurants in Nidri that you will be spoilt for choice. We have just got back from two weeks there and didn't have a single bad meal. The menus are mostly very similar and usually include kleftiko, giouvetsi, stamna, souvlaki, moussaka etc, as well as grilled meat, fresh fish, pasta, pizza etc.

I can recommend Il Sappore (near the ferry dock) which is in fact an Italian restaurant but serving a varied menu. Also Tom's restaurant on the beach was much cheaper than anywhere else, and although it had a very short menu there were always one or two daily specials.

I would personally avoid the Maistrali as the meal we had there was merely OK rather than excellent, and the service was the worst I have encountered. It took three requests to actually get the bill - they were more interested in getting us to stay longer and make the place look busy by bringing "complimentary" dessert, and then cocktails etc, even though we had a very tired 3 year old with us and just needed to get him to bed.

Have a great time and make sure you do lots of swimming - I still managed to put on half a stone in a fortnight . . .

thanks for you great response i will not go to Maistrali i will save my money.

im on a diet now so that i can eat what i like and worry later whilst i am there.

do you know what the prices are like for wine and a vodca and coke. yes i should be ashamed but i like a few tipples on my holidays. last time we were in greece i found vodca and coke to be expensive at about five pounds a throw. i m not tight but i couldnt warrent paying that.i was thinking of getting a bottle at the airport if it is still the same and having a night cap on the balcony.

last question how hungry were the mozzies as i am very alergic to their bites. getting red blisters the size of a fist. not nice!!!

Sorry we stuck to soft drinks so don't know how much the alcohol is - but there is a plentiful supply on sale in the mini markets, and also a couple of more specialised tobacco and drink stores. (The airport is tiny by the way - there isn't a shop in arrivals, and the one in departures is small so buy in resort).

With regard to the mozzies they seemed to be in stealth mode - I didn't see or hear one once, but got one or two bites every night - the anti bite spray just doesn't seem to work for me. But our son (well sprayed) didn't get any, and my hubby (light spray) only got a couple in a fortnight. So I guess just make sure you get a good deterrent and reapply before bed.
