What Not to miss in the Forest of Dean

There seems so many places worth visiting in and around the Forest of Dean that I won't have time to do it all this time. I am spending one night at a pub there in early September. Can anyone advise me on the most important thing NOT to miss? Preferably a part of the forest that is spectacular rather than a commercial concern.

We loved the view from Symonds Yat. Some nice walks round there too but spectacular views across the river as it meanders along.

Very little of the Forest of Dean is commercialised so I wouldn't worry unduly about that.

Where are you staying? People can then suggest local places to there.

This is an old thread now. We've been and gone and had a wonderful time. For some reason all the posts and my thanks and what I did have all disappeared. Perhaps they have been moved to a different heading as there was quite a lot of talk about canoeing. We got a deal at The Farmers Boy Inn in Longhope.

We went canoeing on the River Wye, walked up Symonds Yat and up nearby May Hill.

Thank you for replying.
