Where to stay overnight from Charters Towers to Port Douglas

Happy Australian Day

My husband and I are en route to Port Douglas. We've been doing some extensive driving last few weeks. Don't feel we want to make this journey in one hit. Can anyone recommend a suitable location to stay between Charters Towers and Port Douglas? Thank you.

Well are you doing the inland route through the Tablelands or via the coast?

Rollingstone Caravan Park right on the beach is very nice- via Townsville . From here its 3.5-4 hrs to PD.

You may want to stay further up- Mission Beach is nice- South Mission also very pretty. Then a 1.5 trip to PD or so.

Undara is fascinating up the inland route- but you would need to check its open - not sure how much rain or not ...Its also pretty hot at this time of year as you will already know from Charters.

Milla Milaa Also is lovely - but short on accom
