Le Petit Train Jaune - Stop off points

I'm travelling with my 12 year old grandson from Villefranche, 20 April and believe that the terminus at Le Carol is of no interest. So is there anything worth doing a shorter journey for, spending a couple of hours before returning to Villefranche.

The most scenic part is between Villefranche and Mont-Louis/La Cabanasse.

You could visit the fortress of Mont Louis (world heritage) and/or the solar furnace.

Agreed - Latour de Carol is devoid of anything remotely of interest.

Mont Louis is much better

BUT - the Petit Train Jaune is replaced by a bus until 22nd April!

Many Thanks for your reply and particularly for advising me that the rail journey had been suspended until 22 April. When you have been planning a short trip for 2 months which culminates in a rail trip it would have been nice to find out from the website (or is it that I should learn French!).

Do you have any other ideas to entertain a 12 year old, please - we are staying near Prades,
