excursions

Hi, have just booked a last minute trip to Georgioupolis for my son and I and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good day trips. Have looked at some on the Thomsons website that look good but are there any local operators that offer cheaper alternatives. Only there for a week but hoping to fit in 3 trips, we like boat trips too and any chance to see wildlife. The resort looks lovely and not too touristy which we prefer.

Just back from Georgioupolis after first visit there 3rd time to crete. We loved the place nice and quiet not over touristy. There is only one boat trip called the Sofia from the harbour costs 39 euro for 6 hours includes lunch. It is not a big boat We didn't go on it as it only does certain days and the day we wanted to go it was not on so don't know what the trip was like. I would ask what the waters are like round that area as We did go to Rethymono for a look which is much more touristy and did a boat trip from the venetian harbour Dolphin Cruises, it was horrendous way too rough. Didn't have a good experience. There is a fresh water lake Lake Kournos which is nice for a couple of hours to spend there, tavernas at it for food and there is a wee train which takes you there and back for 5 euros. You can hire pedalos and spend as long as you like on the lake. There is also a river which runs through the village you can hire canoes and go on it. Buses are regular to Chania and Rethymono and cost 3-4 euros each way. Chania is worth a visit lovely harbour and boat trips advertised but did not take one so can't comment on what they are like. We loved the place and would go back. Happy holidays.

4. Re: excursions

If you go to a travel agency, they can book excursions to Balos, Elafonisi, Samaria, Knossos and other destinations, they are always cheaper than booking in advance with a tour operator.
