Woohoo! holiday booked! Bus info please.

Hi Everyone

After visiting for a day in 2008 we have finally been able to book flights to bring us back for a week in September. It will have to be a budget holiday as we have already been away with family to Spain. We could not wait until next year for our Greek 'fix' though.

We intend to take the public bus from the airport to Chania bus station and then get the Rethymnon bus to Georgioupolis. Thanks to those who have already posted the timetables.

Just wondered where the bus stops in GP? Does it drop you off at the side of the motorway or does it go into the village? Also do we put our suitcase in the boot or take on board?

Thanks, very excited.

There is a big slip road which leads directly down into the village, less than 5 minutes walk to the square. The bus stops there, it doesn't venture into the village - but it is very convenient.

One thing though - depending where you are staying, it may be better to use one of the other bus stops, as the resort is quite spread out and you don't want to be lugging your cases any further than you have to.

Yes, you put luggage in the space under the coach.

Thanks a lot Steve. We haven't booked accommodation yet. Almost decided on Georgioupolis Beach Hotel.

As Steve rightly says, it really depends on where in GP you are staying. For the hotel you mention, the bus stop would be the one Steve mentions.

Are you choosing GP Beach Hotel because it has a pool? If so have you looked at Kokolas? That would be the next stop, as it's the other end of the village.

If you don't specifically need a pool, have you looked at either Eleana Appts or Deep Blue Sea? We have stayed at both over the years and both are exellent. Check out their reviews on here.

Agree with what's already been posted about bus stops, and the very good accommodation around the village.

Others have sent you bus timetables, but it's worth looking at a taxi or a hire car. (budget dependant).

Taxi from Chania to the village is 65 Euros for approx 40 mins trip. We pre-booked a car hire at the airport for 140 Euros, and used it for a couple of trips into Chania as well as getting to the village so prices compare quite favourably with taxi - even if you don't turn a wheel until your return trip!

Have a great holiday

Thanks a lot for your advice folks.

Billyseagull I think the accommodation you mention must be unavailable on our dates in September as they are not coming up on Booking.com. Going to book the Beach Hotel.

Really looking forward to it. Hubby can't wait for his first frappe and pita gyros!

In May when I stayed at Kokalas Rula (owner) mentioned that they use two Agents, Olympic and another (german?) company. At the time of the conversation she claimed that they were 95% booked with Olympic and 80% with the other company. Added to the fact they have a huge amount of repeat and direct visitors you will be very lucky to get in there this season.
