it's only 5 minutes by bus, take a taxi 5 euro, unless you want to go Bali in Indonesia, than it's 10 hours by airplane and much more money than 5 euro

Ha, ha.

Thanks Albert, I'll do that then. It does look a bit more commercialised than Panormo though, but would make a trip out.

Ooo nursecarol, are you being disloyal to Stoupa? Lol.

I've actually stayed in Bali. It is very hilly, you go up one hill (one by our hotel wad christened cardiac hill) and down another and there are several beaches in coves of various sizes. About 4. Follow the coast to your left (facing the sea) and you'll come to a small harbour. Each beach has tavernas and bars. It depends how you defy commerciailised. The hilly nature make it spread out so it feels a smaller place than it is.

We had 2 good holidays there but used it as a base as out exploring Crete each day in the car. Did some mileage I can say.

I'd say there are as many bars etc as say Parga but feels quieter due to hills. When we went (may and oct) fairly quiet no blaring music bars etc

Hello again Thira, thought I should spread my wings and try somewhere new, so easy to stick to the tried and tested, comfortable, but less exciting. I'm just going to try one week there, on my own, September 4 -11th. You will have experienced Stoupa by then and will be in a position to compare and give me your views. I have been to Parga but wasn't so keen, too commercialised for my taste.

If it's hilly maybe the bike idea is not so good!!

You could always dismount for the hills. The worst hill (cardiac hill) was a path, the road is longer and more gentle a hill. Crete has something for everyone as its so vast. We have been 8 times to several places. One thing about Bali we liked, the tavernas on the beach by our hotel were open air style, and there was no need to lock the bar area up at night. Such low crime.
