Realistic walking from Xemxija

With a little bit of apprehension we are staying at the Ambassador in Xemxija in September. How realistic is it to walk into Bugibba/St Pauls Bay? Not sure if there will be enough restaurants etc near the hotel, and we do like a bit of walking!

Reviews of the hotel very hit and miss, but it is a very cheap holiday so we will take it as it comes, as long as we can get out and about!!

The walk from Xemxija to St Pauls Bay / Bugibba is quite easy and will take an average walker about 45 minutes.

Some of the route has no pavement but the walk is fairly simple.

You can of course jump on a bus which are quite regular and cheap.

There are a few cafes and bars nearby and a very short bus ride will take you to Mellieha with it`s numerous eateries.

Have a nice stay.

Thanks for the info Graham, we intend getting the weekly bus tickets. Is Mellieha walkable though?

Mellieha is proberbly about the same distance as St Pauls Bay BUT it is up a very very series of steep hills including a tight hairpin bends with no path and would be quite dangerous.

If the weather is hot the walk would be highly unpleasant.

I know people who have done it but they are strong walkers ( 10 to 20 mile a day walkers ) and keep off the road as much as possible.

Stick to the bus .

From Xemxija you can walk to Mistra Bay,it takes about15/20mins.It is a nice little bay mainly used by locals. There is 1 restaurant there (and sometimes an ice cream van). If you fancy it there is the Xemxija heratige trail to do.Hotel should have info. enjoy your stay.

Definitely walkable to Bugibba or Mellieha, particulaly the former. I do it regularly. But you'd be walking alongside bus routes, so the novelty would soon wear off.

Thank you for the replies! We are used to walking in Egypt so the heat not to worrying. We are more concerned about evening time getting out to restaurants etc.

Will definitely check out the Heritage Trail.

Looking foward now, been about 25 years plus since last visited Malta!!

If walking to St Pauls Bay/Bugibba from Xemxija turn left at the Post Office to pick the promenade up.it gets you off the main road out of the traffic.

Bus is only 1.50 euros. We got a taxi back but ripped off at 20 euros.
