Town/village near Faro.

Looking to go sept/oct to a little village/town near Faro. Anyone any ideas where to go? Looking somewhere that is not too quiet and has various bars/restaurants.

Thank you.

East of Faro you could have a look at Olhao.

West of Faro you could look at Olhos d'Agua.

Ohlao? Just east of Faro. (FTHW beat me to it).

I've been looking at this as it's growing and some new 4* hotels.

Loule inland is well worth a visit.

You could try Olhos d'Agua. It is a lovely spot. Near to Albufeira and Villamoura but not too near. Plenty of restaurants and bars and good quality accommodation. Lovely town beach and 2 much bigger beaches either side of the resort.

Conceicao/Cabanas Tavira, Montegordo http://www.montegordouncovered.com/ http://www.cabanasuncovered.com/ also Olhao http://www.olhaouncovered.com/ all East of Faro. West of Faro Olhos D Agua, Acoteias, Faleisia all same area. If you want to stay slightly inland East of Faro have a look at Sao Bras Alportel not far from airport, lovely town http://www.saobrasuncovered.com/

Olhão is not a little town, population is about 45,000. There is no beach there, if that's important. You have to cross by ferry to one of the islands for a beach.

The places Jayjan mentions above might be better.

"not too quiet" Cabanas and Monte Gordo are nice but a bit more touristy, don't you think? And after season may be a bit quiet.

Sao Bras (farmer's area in the hills) is lovely indeed but not near the sea and at night rather empty.

Olhao has the intimacy of a town, the population is quite spread over a large municipality.

The fun about Olhao is that you can choose between various unspoilt islands and it's not a long ferry ride. If you want to be right at the beach choose for Olhos d'Agua.
