Beaches with no pebbles in the sea or sand?

We will be staying in the Istron area in September.

I have read about the beaches on line. They look beautiful but most of them seem to have pebbles in the sea which are difficult for me. Please can anyone recommend beaches in the area (we will hire a car for all our stay) which don't have pebbles in the sea (and ideally not many on the beach too)?

Try Weston Super Mare lol, I'm not an expert on Istron or close by but if you are getting a car then try Potamas beach near Malia, follow signs for the archeological site, drive passed it and you will come to Potomas, large sandy beach. Don't be put off by its proximity to Malia, too far for the 18-30 crowd to walk to.

I'm a sure others can help with any closer beaches.

Voulisma beach is virtually on your doorstep if your staying in Istron and is a lovely sandy beach,i certainly can't recall any problems with pebbles or rocks when we've visited there. It's a fair walk up and down the steps to access the beach but it's well worth the effort, there is a small cafe and toilets halfway as well as waiter service on the beach offering drinks and snacks. At the top there is a fair sized car park and across the road there are a few very nice tavernas.

This will give you an idea of the sandy part of Voulisma Beach https:/…set-72157645963075262 and although the beach is a little pebbly you have to pay a visit to the fabulous Maria's Cantina on Karavostasi Beach which is about 1km West of Istron https:/…set-72157634830659764 and https:/…set-72157645963075262

Hi there

There are three beaches in Istro so all very close you :-) the most famous is Voulisma beach, or golden beach which only has pebbles at the far end of the beach, but otherwise there are no pebbles either on the beach or in the sea.

There is also Karavostasi beach ( or bronze beach) .which was quite pebbly but has a lot more sand since the bad winter seems to have changed the beach .....so although there are some pebbles you can still find places on the beach that have no pebbles either on the beach or in the sea.

Finally Agios Panteleimonas or silver beach, this has a lot coarser sand with some small pebbles in the sea too...this is probably the quietest beach of the three and I have been on this beach in August and have been the only person on it :-)

There is also Amoundara beach which is a 5 min drive from Istro on the road towards Agios...which of course now is so much quieter since the opening of the new section of the national road :-) this is also a lovely sandy bay with a sandy beach and sandy in the water too, it also has a few very good taverns right on the beach.

And finally if did want to travel a little further then there is the stunning Almyros beach so just 10 min drive from Istro again located on the old national road, this is a huge sandy beach with no pebbles in the sea or on the beach :-)

So you have a great choice :-)

Any other questions about this area then do just ask :-)

I see from your profile, that this is your specialist area.

Perhaps you could share any info you have on restaurants in the area that are good for vegetarians (always a little difficult in Greece) and any nice atmospheric villages to visit.

Again many thanks.
