How Safe it it?

We have been looking at hiring a boat on the broads, never been before & therefore not sure what to expect. Can someone let us know which is the best departure point, how safe /secure are the boats, and what level of fitness are you likely to need......!! Sorry so many questions, but any help appreicated.

First of all, you might be better to repost this question in the Niorfolk forum. Hopton is not really associated with the Broads, being a seaside village between Yarmouth and Lowestoft. The best departure point is always going to be subjective. The most popular is Wroxham, known as the "Capital of the Broads", and indeed is a very pleasant place on the River Bure, albeit very busy in peak season. There are lots of alternatives - Stalham for instance is much quiter than Wroxham, and Potter Heigham, famous for its very low bridge. You really only need to mobile enough to get on and off the boat as there are no locks, and the boats are very safe. Children and non-swimmers should always wear bouancy aids. Always hire a large enough boat for your party, and take your time and enjoy the scenery, and of course the pubs along the way.
