Taxi or Tour to Gamboa Sky Tram?

Hi all,

Seeking advice:

We are going to be flying back from Bocas to PC arriving around 9:30am and our flight back to NYC isn't until 8:30... we would like to use this time to do a tour. Since we will already be doing a city tour and a visit to embera on the first leg of the trip, we thought it might be a nice idea to head to Gamboa, do the sky tram and then maybe have a nice lunch at leisure until heading to the airport.

The question is: When we fly into Albrook airport, will there be Taxis outside that can take us to Gamboa? If so, how much does it cost have how long does it take to get there?

Similarly, will we be able to find a taxi to take us from Gamboa to the international airport and if so, how much time should we allow if we need to get to the airport at 5:30 (is there a lot of traffic that we should be aware of?)

the alternative is for us to arrange for My Friend Mario to pick us up, transport us to Gamboa, take us on the tour, and then take us back to town. We would love to have a little freedom to have a nice lunch or maybe sneak in a manicure or pedicure but we would definitely opt for a tour guide is it means ensuring the cheapest and most fool-proof way for us to enjoy our last day in Panama.

So what do you think? Is it safe and affordable to rely on Taxis or should we pre-book a guide?

Thanks in advance!

We visited Panama a year ago. My information may help you regarding taxi costs and time. We found plenty of taxis waiting at Allbrook airport when we flew back from San Blas. We took a taxi from there to Gamboa (via a short stop to pick up luggage we left at La Estancia near the airport) for $27. We were staying at Gamboa 3 nights, the taxi driver gave us a card with his cell # for our trip back from Gamboa to the Int'l airport, said he would do it for $40, but the night before, we could never reach him on his phone to arrange a time, so we used a taxi from Gamboa for $50. It took us about 45min to get to the international airport from Gamboa, but this was not during rush hour (was at about 10am on a weekday).
