Driving from Newport, VT to Montreal

My husband and I are planning a road trip through the Northeast Kingdom up to Montreal next week. We are staying at the Little Gnesta in Newport and have hotel reservations in Montreal for two nights. Any recommendations for the drive? Is there a a particularly beautiful route and any place we need to stop along the way? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

You can take Rt. 105 toward Jay Peak, take a tram ride to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view.

Alternatively, you can go north from Newport into Quebec, up to Lake Massawippi, and the lovely little towns of Ayer's Cliff and North Hatley. Be sure to bring your passports.
