do you have to go in July as you are in the UK holiday season and flights are more expensive than over the winter when not only is it cheeper but also cooler - in july in the Philippines its a bit like being in a launderette in a heatwave - hot and sticky.

you can do searches on www.skyscanner.net and would suggest you also check fares from Manchester and London. The cheapest tickets i have seen fromthe UK to Manila have been with China Southern airlines from manchester in October 2013 for around £400 return, now on Air China you are looking at £500 from london and July on my quick search you are looking at £800 from Glasgow or £700 from london.

As for accomodationyou are not in a tourist area and although you are in the Philippines low season you dont get bargains like you do for example on the Costas or Algarve out of season. The nearest hotels you will find are likely to be `about an hour away. Really if you are looking for a month it may be your friend is in a better position to find somewhere nearby

Cheapest flights and Accommodation are rarely the best option.

You can save 50 pounds by flying with a Chinese airline but then have a 24 hour stop over each way.

Qatar or Kuwait Airlines are good and stopovers usually 4 hours or less.

Cheapest accommodation is even worse. You cannot pay park bench money and expect 5 star hotel treatment.

I suggest you ask your friend to arrange your accommodation. Cheapest is bed-space and you will pay less than p3,000 a month but you may find your belongings disappearing.

Why don't you consider travelling on the pleasant West or East Coast main line train to London and picking up Philippine Airlines at Heathrow?

PAL runs five evenings a week ex London Heathrow and is the only airline to offer nonstop flights to Manila, a huge bonus when compared with having to change planes and wait around. The Philippine Islands Connections website has fares from about 586 pounds return, which is very good value considering it is similar to what east coast Australians pay return to get to and from Philippines, yet the Australia to Manila flight is a lot shorter distance than the London to Manila flight.

Please support PAL so that its flights are viable. You won't regret spending the extra compared with a horrible Middle Eastern or mainland Chinese airline (and associated poor airports: Dubai is not an airport I would recommend to anybody.)

I agree with Sampag.

If cost is an issue, October & November are usually the best months to grab a cheap flight. It's possible to save around £150 travelling at this time if you fly out of Heathrow. Not sure about other UK airport's though.

Also the weather will be better as the rainy season is coming to an end.

If you decide on this, start looking for flights around four months before you go and if you see prices with the likes of Cathay Pacific & Singapore Airlines for around £500 or Philippine Airlines for less than £600 you've got a good deal. As said before the Chinese airlines, or Royal Brunei are the cheapest but the stopover times can be ludicrous especially with the latter.

As for accommodation, Pagsanjan Falls Lodge is about 5 miles away from Pila. The falls are probably Laguna's premier attraction so there should be other places to choose from apart from this one, so ask your friend.
