Hi Tia,

Congratulations! Hope you love Santo.

Take a good amount of cash and exchange it at the ANZ in the centre of Luganville. It is a tiny town so it's very easy to find.

If the ANZ is not open you can exchange at the chinese supermarket.

Credit cards and Aussie dollars are of no use outside Luganville and even there vatu is the best way to go.

If you fly into Vila on the way to Santo you may have time to exchange some money at the National Bank of Vanuatu counter at the airport on the way through.

Click on the "Day Trips: Beach" link under itineraries in the column on the right. It is a useful guide to Santo.

Money exchange is definitely best to do in Vanuatu as the rate is so much better so do hold off if you can.

Hope this helps,

We always take AU$ and cards. There are a few ATM's but not always working. Cash can be exchanged at the banks or at Unity Store (bus depot/servo/convenience store) or LCM (supermarket). We have always had a better rate from Unity but you can check what rates are offered on the day. If you're staying in Luganville itself then a taxi should cost you no more than 1000vt to town from the airport and they will wait while you exchange some cash if you ask.

We were there 2 weeks ago, and if you arrive on a weekday, the Westpac and ANZ bank have good exchange rates. We just asked our driver to take us to the bank before taking us to our accommodation. Otherwise the Unity Store or LCM as mentioned above.

As Jen said, you'll need vatu if you want to buy anything, and you'll also need cash to pay taxi drivers, buses, and even a tour bus. All cash and vatu !!!

Happy to help if you need further info and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding.
