hotel in between flights

I am trying to find a place to kill time in between my flights. I will have basically from 1 pm to 9 pm. I dont want to stay at the airport and would rather just relax at a hotel. I have been looking around.

City Lodge at the airport looks okay. Can anyone rec any guest houses near the airport or any other places?

Thank you!

Hello IslandGirl2006,

Welcome to our forum, hope we can help you out with some good advice.

Just to clarify, are you arriving at 1pm and departing at 9pm? Or do you expect to have the full 8 hours to relax? In other words, have you cleared immigration and expect to be out the door at 1pm?

Irrespective of your answer I would suggest that you stay in the vicinity of the airport. There are plenty of roadworks in the area so don't stray too far from the airport in case you get stuck in traffic.

The closest hotels are the Peermont Metcourt (free shuttle from the airport) and the Southern Sun Garden Court. There are a few B&Bs in the area, you can try the link below to see the list. One of our regular posters always recommend the Airport Game Lodge, check it out and see if it meets your requirements.

Price-wise you can expect to pay around R300 (or more) for a B&B, hotels will be more.

Obviously if you arrive at 1pm and depart at 9pm you will need to take into account the time to clear immigration at both ends, this will mean an extra 3 hours. In this case you would be better off in an airport lounge :)

Let us know if you need more help!

City Lodge is a great hotel and I can recommend it. There is a shuttle from the airport at a cost of 48 or 46 Rand (cabn't remember which) one way.

If you take the free shuttle to any of the hotels at the Emperors Palace Casino complex, you can also visit the Casino, eat at any one of the restaurants or food court places, even gamble a little. You don't have to check into a hotel. But the Metcourt generally is the least expensive of the four hotels there. Go to www.peermont.com and work your way through till you see a place where you can 'pretend' to book and see what the rates are. Probably more expensive than, for example, City Lodge.

Thanks for all the info! My flight actually lands at 12 pm and departs at 12:45 am. But yes I should take into account the immigration clearance, etc.
