Need help with our itinerary please

We are a family of 7 adults travelling to Thailand for Christmas/New Year for 14 nights.

We land in Phuket at around 10pm and we are looking for a nice hotel on a gorgeous beach to crash out for a few days. We then plan on heading to Phi Phi and Lanta for a few nights and finishing in Khao Lak.

We have been looking at hotels in the Kata area - however anything in our price range seem to be miles up into the hills.

We also looked at the Bangtao Bay area but again the hotels are very expensive.

Anyone any ideas for a nice beachfront hotel on a lovely beach - up to 4000 baht per room per night for 2 people?

Or would we be better heading straight to Khao Lak and then onto Phi Phi and Lanta and finishing our holiday in Krabi?

Any suggestions most welcome.

Your are travellinmg at PeakSeason when hotel rates are at their highest.Try some of the online booking sites suchas asiarooms.com, sawasdee.com, agoda.com etc for better rates, but nothing is cheap in December/January.

I don't know their high season rates this year but I often stay at Kata Beach Resort in December.

we just had this same search for my son and his wife, on a budget at xmas/new year beachfront is hard to come by, however there are a couple of options if you dont want one of the top resorts (too expensive)

phuket-bangtaolagoon.com they have bungalows and is beachfront, pool view room 3,200bhat beachfront bungalow 5,500bhat, we had a look at those they look good but dont know what resturants etc are around there

All seasons Naiharn 3* on beachfront may get a basic standard room around your price or bit more, Naiharn is a lovely beach but not much around there

chalongbeachhotelandspa.com have a look, its beachfront 4*, and price around 4,300bhat nite for a seaview dlx room, in Chalong (Friendship beach) so its close to pier for transfer to Phi Phi

tritrangbeachresort.com is close to Patong for nightlife and resturants, it built into a hill so lots of steps and directly on Tri Trang beach which is a beautiful quiet beach with views over to Patong, 5 min hotel shuttle or tuk tuk ride into Patong, standard rooms for Dec start at 3,500baht nice rooms (have looked at them inside) but basic no bath, the seaviws from the balcony is fantastic, delux rooms 5000bhat, massage on the beach, and a great resturant on the beach overlooking the bay, and a beach bar, great beach to swim at, might be your best bet for a few nights in Patong over that time

not on a beach but close to one in Patong 150metre, swiss palm beach resort, and Eden Bungalows, both very good places to stay and close to everything, 10 min walk to bangla rd but lots resturants and bars on the way, tuk tuk about 150bhat, my son staying at bungalows for price and location, they are clean and comfortable www.edenbungalow.com and www.swisspalmbeach.com

another thing to consider is the gala dinner costs involved with most resorts, both xmas and n/y seperate costs, not sure on costs of other resorts but know eden bungalow is 2000 bhat for new year and swiss palm dont do it so no charge, most low cost resorts would be around 2000bhat

Khao Lak have a lot of resorts right on the beach and more laid back than Phuket although still lots to do and see phuketlovers.com for a look
