Where to stay in phuket HELP!

We will be in Phuket March 31- April 4. We are a 28 year old couple from USA. We are overwhelmed with hotel options and areas. Would love suggestion on certain hotels and areas. We would like the following:

-We would like to be within walking distance (5-10 min) to nightlife, restaurants , and the beach

- Air conditioning

-Refridgerator

From what we are reading about Patong, it seems a little crazy nighlife/area. Is there any low key areas? What is the best area to stay in Patong, Kata, Karon? We would like to spend under $100 a night on hotel upto $125 if needed.

We like to be able to walk to places and not always rely on transporation. Not sure if patong is a place we will be in nightly, if so we would want to be in walking distance. If this is a place we would only visit once then we wouldnt mind taking transportation. Just unsure how many restaurants/bars there are in the Kata/Karon areas. Can you walk from Kata/Karon to Patong?

Thanks for any help!

Hi

If you look in the left hand panel, and '. . . . . . hotels' <----- you can sort by your budget. No need to do 4 posts in Phuket, Patong, Karon and Kata, just one in the Phuket forum will get some great responses!

But I think you need to decide where before you decide what hotel .. . . . . Patong is the biggest and busiest resort! It has lots going on day and night. 10-20mins over the hill by taxi / tuk tuk is Karon, a much quieter resort but it is a really long stretched out resort, but has a great choice of bars and restaurants but does not have the really busy feel that you get in Patong. The southern end of Karon sort of blends into the northern end of Kata. Kata has more a village feel, good choice of bars, restaurants and shops, and IMO the nicest beach. In both Kata and Karon you will have more than enough restaurants / bars for each of your 4 nights. It would take around 20mins to get from the southern end of Kata or Patong.

If you want even quieter you could look at the resorts north of Patong.

If you like having fun then perhaps look at Patong, if you want to have a slightly less busy nightlife / lots of shopping / bars / restaurants, then perhaps look at Kata.

Happy hunting!

Ok Hannah - many have asked the same questions repeatedly sometimes you have to just change your wording to get the right answer - never mind. Try googling travelonline.com - they have an exaustive list of hotels. I'm not at all suggesting you book with them. (Don't know them, don't know anyone else who's book with them - may or may not be reputable?) but their website is very easy to work with. Just go into their site & you can select 2 - 5 star hotels in order. have a look around and you will get an idea of what "star" rating you need to concentrate on for your $100 - $125/nite. They'll also email you promptly with a quote (even though you'll have no intention of booking with them but will give you an idea of prices) I know you want to get it right - after all you're travelling a long way. Patong/Karon & Kata will all have plenty of shopping, rest., bars, massages places etc. for you. Good luck.
