Live from EPM 3/2/13

We arrived mid afternoon yesterday after a turbulance filled flight, and despite some issues with luggage taking quite some time to come off of the plane, customs and immigration was a breeze.

We booked a private transfer through the resort and we were quickly whisked away to EPM to start our vacation. We were fortunate enough to be greeted by Virginia's new assistant and several of the staff who we know from prior trips. There are a few new faces and our concierge commented as walked to the Excellence club, that we knew more people than he did.

Check in was, as usual, a pleasant and quick experience. Marianna was kind enough to introduce us to the new lady in charge of the Excellence Club and make sure that our needs were attended to. We were fortunate to have our room request granted and we found our way to our favorite room and quickly changed to grab a quick lunch at the Grill and say Hola to Adan at the EC pool bar. He makes the best Cadillac margaritas and always remembers how I like mine. He even remembered that my DH drinks only sin alcohol and made him the no alcohol drink of the day.

Lunch at the Grill perfectly fit the spot. The calamari was excellent and the cesar salad wonderful. DH had the shrimp tacos and hes said they were even better than the last time he had them.

We noted on the way back to our room that the grounds are very lush and green right now, likely as a result of the recent rains. We had a nice chat with Carolina at the EC pool concierge and headed back to the room for a nap as 4:00 a.m. departure was a bit early.

Marianna arranged for us to have a table ready in Basmati and Oscar took absolutely wonderful care of us. He chose a menu for us after inquiring as to our preferences as we love spicy food and the selections he made resulted in a perfect meal.

We finished off the evening in the Cafe Coffee square area watching the fire show. It was a bit chilly as a front has been hanging out for a few days, causing windy and cooler temps so called it an early night.

Upon our return to our room, we were surprised to find a gift from our concierge of some beautiful flowers and little desserts.

Waking up this a.m. to coffee on the patio of our room, but it is a bit cool this morning, only 52F at the Cancun airport this a.m. but it sure beats the 7 degrees we left yesterday. Then off to breakfast at the Lobster House later. Sun is coming out and it is to be a bit warmer over the next few days.

Sorry if there are typos, the little net book we brought has such a tiny keyboard, hard to hit only the correct keys! Happy to be back home in paradise!

I'm sorry that the cold front is still there! I kept saying I thought it would break up, but it sounds like it was hanging in there. Still, it's hard not to be ridiculously happy at EPM. Thanks for the update and hope you're having a great stay!

Update after the first full day. . . .

Temps were still a bit chilly yesterday and quite windy. It was about 53degrees F upon wake up yesterday, but when the sun came out, it was still warm enough to lay in the sun. I have never seen so many people wearing sweatshirts here. The staff, who are not used to these cool temps are really quite cold. For us, it is still paradise as a very large snow storm is bearing down on the midwest.

Had a wonderful breakfast of a ham and cheese omlette and a cancun omlette at the lobster house with nicely crisped hashbrowns and a mimosa, then off to the pool. Occupancy is at 100% and for the second night in a row, there were no closed restaurants. However, there were still chairs to be had everywhere, including the excellence club pool area.

Lunch at the Grill was tasty as usual and Lisa took wonderful care of us. The dessert menu for lunch has changed and the Opera cake is even better than we remembered.!

The roof top terrace was nice at the back, away from wind and we spent a little afternoon sun time there, followed by a short nap before an absolutely wonderful dinner at Toscona.

They clearly knew we were coming to Toscona for dinner as the staff was inquiring as to where we may be having dinner, and the service and cuisine were wonderful. We had not eaten at Toscona for several trips because the menu was a bit stagnant for us. The changes to the menu were excellent. The seafood soup with creamy risotto was very interesting and the risotto very creamy. We shared a duck and goat cheese pizza with dried cranberries and it was so wonderful. It is a bit large though and it could be a meal by itself. I had the new Pollo Peperoncini and it was very tasty and DH enjoyed his shrimp and scallop dish. Tiramisu is now served with a new deconstructed twist and we were treated to an extra serving (which we did not need!), on a nicely decorated plate that welcomed us home. The manager, Arturo, and our waiter Armando were so attentive and the service was relaxed paced but impeccable.

We are saying hello to all the staff from the fellow trip advisor members who requested and the staff really do remember the repeat guests. In answer to FFM's inquiry,if you were referring to Javier, the F&B manager, he is still here and he stopped to chat for a bit and look after us our first evening. Things really seem to be tuned up and little subtle changes in the food quality and preparation are noticable.

Just a tip to those that from time to time are dissatisfied with maid service or turndown service.....just go and ask your concierge for a time and use the little card in your door. It has been perfect, as have the pillows we requested. Our deadbolt did not work when we arrived and a little discussion with the concierge and it was quickly fixed. There is nothing that they will not try to accomplish for you.

Wind has settled down a bit overnight and it is bright and sunny this morning.Off to breakfast at the Lobster house and some fun and pool time.

Beautiful day at EPM yesterday. Sunny, less wind and cloudless. The temps are now in the high 70's and expected today to be in the low 80's.

Breakfast at the Lobster house, consisting of Burritos Granjas and bacon was a perfect way to start the day. How can you not be happy drinking mimosas and staring at the ocean.

Excellence club pool was full yesterday so ambled over to the EC pool by building nine and it was lovely. We were taken excellent care of and it was very peaceful. No problem getting a chair or a float.

Lunch at the grill, consisting of the chicken wrap grilled chicken breast was very good and DH had to indulge in a little opera cake again.

Two stress cure massages completed a perfect afternoon. The spa seems to be running a lot of specials and we took advantage of the 80 minute massage sale yesterday.

As the wind had subsided a bit yesterday, we decided the Lobster House was the spot to go for dinner and the seafood bisque and grilled lobster was simply wonderful. Angel and the sommelier, Martin took absolutely wonderful care of us. The service and the food were some of the best we remember having at the Lobster House.

Returned to our room to find a nice little gift of cheese and wine...it was a lovely way to end an evening.

Getting ready to go enjoy another quiet and relaxing day in full sun today. The wind has picked up a bit again today, but it is supposed to be 80 and it is sunny in paradise.
