Let's play 20 (or so) questions re money £'s V $ V M$

Hi Mexico lovers.

We are T-minus 20 days & almost as excited as the U.S. football team (that's soccer to you guys)

Go U. U. U.S.A. (since England are out of it AGAIN!)

Yes, I have a question or two:

Today:

a British £ gets you approx. 20 pesos

a British £ gets you approx. $1.65c

Do the folks at EPM like their tip in $$$ or pesos?

Do the folks out and about like their cash for goods in $$$ or pesos?

Where is the best place to exchange our £££'s or $$$'s?

England bank/bureau or

Mexico airport/bureau or

Hotel bureau?

We had heard on other forums that the exchange rate at the hotel is sometimes better than at a bureau in England.

We are working out the tips for maids, waiting staff, bell-boy's, etc. so any advice is most welcome.

thanks all

Dave C

Dave we take US dollars and pound sterling. We ask for low dominations of dollars to provide us with cash for early tipping. The bars/lobby/restaraunt swill break down higher notes for you if you ask. Alternatively front desk will convert the dollars into peso at a good rate.

If we want to change pound sterling into peso, we have found that we have received a better exchange rate at the front desk than we could have obtained in the uk.

The ATM in the resort takes a hefty fee so I would avoid that if you have other options.

Enjoy your holiday, I am sure it will be fantastic.

Pesos you go to Mexico not to the USA.

I always change my cash Euro'S to pesos in Mexico.

You could get some pesos bach home for the first day when you arive and for the rest use your pound sterling or atm.

And don't forget that you travel during hurricane season so keep some cash in case something happens.

We had Wilma in 2005 and a lot of people didn't have cash and couldn't get from a atm because it all was down.

Hi Dave C

T-minus 13 days for us first timers.

I used Thomas Cook foreign exchange for our Pesos as they were able to supply 20 and 50 Pesos bills.

Rate of 20.07. Not the best rate, but one of the few companies that could provide all in small bills.

Tip- carrying smaller denomination pesos can be cumbersome. We took larger bills & had them broken into smaller at the front desk.(like 20s or 50s) Never had a problem with that......only when we wanted to exchange a large US bill into pesos.

Hi Dave C....We arrive on the 21st July so I guess our paths will cross in one bar or another. We were thinking about taking low denomination dollars for tipping, and pesos for when we go out and about. We're just going to get it all changed up here as saves faffing around when we get there and gives us more time for drinking!

Hi cheriton59

I like your style. Anything that interferes with the drinking is not good.

Unfortunately for me it’s a case of the mind is willing but the body is not able, but still I try, and everyone loves a trier

Hi!

A former staff member told me (because I asked...) that the staff prefer USD... As for shopping, I just use my VISA.... I hate having to try to figure out the peso/dollar thing.....
