Common Norm is that you Check in around 12 PM one day and Check out 11 AM next day . They normally insist on checking out at 11 AM so that they can prepare/clean/be ready for the next day guest by 12 PM which indeed is a logical thing to ask.

Homestays are not hotels and tend to be very flexible with checkout times especially when it is not the tourist season. Homestays thrive on word-of-mouth publicity and also referrals from former customers.

The usual norm is for a checkout to be done by 10.00 in the morning. But, as mentioned it is not a hard and fast rule. A homestay once allowed me to stay on till 16.45 as my train was as leaving at 17.00 hrs.
